Whistleblower and Anti-Retaliation Policy
Effective Date: May 9, 2026
Purpose
Working Musicians Alliance (“WMA”) recognizes that many musicians, performers, venue workers, touring professionals, and related industry participants may hesitate to raise concerns regarding professional treatment, compensation practices, unsafe conditions, misleading agreements, retaliation, or other industry-related issues due to fear of professional consequences, intimidation, reputational harm, or loss of future opportunities.
This policy exists to encourage responsible, good-faith reporting and to support professional, documentation-oriented communication regarding concerns affecting working musicians and related industry participants.
WMA believes constructive advocacy depends on an environment where individuals can raise concerns responsibly without unnecessary intimidation or retaliatory abuse.
Good-Faith Reporting Principles
WMA encourages individuals submitting concerns or reports to:
- communicate honestly and responsibly
- provide factual information to the best of their knowledge
- distinguish verified facts from assumptions or opinions
- provide supporting documentation whenever reasonably possible
- avoid knowingly false, misleading, manipulated, or malicious claims
- approach disputes professionally and constructively
The organization recognizes that disputes and professional disagreements may involve differing perspectives, incomplete information, or conflicting interpretations.
The existence of an allegation alone does not establish verified misconduct or wrongdoing.
WMA encourages fact-based, documentation-oriented discussion whenever reasonably possible.
Anti-Retaliation Principles
WMA discourages retaliation against individuals who raise concerns in good faith regarding:
- compensation disputes
- venue practices
- contractual concerns
- unsafe conditions
- professional misconduct
- harassment concerns
- retaliatory behavior
- misleading agreements
- repeated unprofessional practices
- other industry-related concerns
Retaliatory behavior may include:
- threats
- intimidation
- harassment
- malicious targeting
- coordinated public attacks
- professional blacklisting efforts
- coercive conduct intended to silence responsible participation
WMA believes healthy music communities depend on professional communication, accountability, and the ability to raise concerns responsibly without fear-driven suppression.
Documentation and Responsible Communication
WMA strongly encourages individuals to maintain documentation relating to professional agreements and disputes whenever reasonably possible.
Supporting materials may include:
- contracts
- invoices
- emails
- screenshots
- payment records
- schedules
- written agreements
- promotional commitments
- cancellation communications
- other relevant documentation
Documentation helps establish clarity, timelines, expectations, and context.
The organization encourages calm, evidence-supported communication rather than emotionally reactive public conflict or assumption-driven accusations.
Confidentiality and Limitations
WMA may make reasonable efforts to handle submitted information responsibly and professionally.
However, individuals submitting information acknowledge that:
- electronic communications inherently involve risk
- WMA cannot guarantee absolute confidentiality
- WMA cannot guarantee anonymity
- website submissions may not be fully secure
- some disclosures may become necessary for operational, legal, safety, or organizational reasons
- not all submissions may receive follow-up or organizational involvement
Individuals should exercise discretion when submitting sensitive information and avoid sharing unnecessary personal information whenever possible.

This policy does not create:
- legal whistleblower protections
